Membership of the Buttercross Belles

Practices

We practice each Thursday evening during school tern time between September and mid May from 8pm until 10pm at St Joseph's school, Manor Square, Otley. New dancers and musicians are welcome to join the Belles each September.

Workshops

From time to time a day is spent working in detail on a single dance. Often the instruction is given by another dance team, in return for which we teach them one of our dances.

Performances

We perform throughout the year, however the principal dancing season is from Easter until the end of September. We dance most weekends and one evening during the week - usually Thursday - frequently with another dance team from the surrounding area.

Dancers' Kit

• Straw Hat decorated with flowers.
• White Dress.
• Green Smock.
• Green Cardigan with logo on back.
• Black Tap Shoes with bells.
• Bloomers (optional).

Musicians' Kit

• No kit is specified for musicians, however female musicians usually wear the same as the dancers (see above).

Dancers

• A Membership fee of £5 per year covers group membership of the Morris Federation and personal injury insurance.
• Dancers share the cost of the practice hall - which currently amounts to about £50 per year per dancer. The subscription is paid in three installments over the practice season.

Musicians

• No fees are charged.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM is held in October each year.

Officers

There are fourteen officers, appointed bi-annually by election at the AGM. The officers are: Squire, Deputy Squire, Secretary, Treasurer, Dance Teacher, Deputy Dance Teacher, Principal Musician, Publicity Officer, Wardrobe Mistress, Archivist, and Equipment Officer.
